There are 7 foundation mare lines dating back to the early 1900s.The ponies all descend from mares called Margarite, Marmoset, Mayfly, Mercury, Milkbar, Mopsy and Mushroom. Other mares have been bought from other herds to help the genetics of the Anchor ponies and a couple of stallions have also been bought or loaned for the same reason.
Every year the crop of foals are named using sequential letters of the alphabet, in 2014 the letter is J and a foal from the Marmoset line would begin with J and have the theme of an animal, Jackal for example.
